Play with grey
Five years after Kerry Villers first decorated her living room, it was in need of freshening up. The author of Noah & the Girls life and style blog turned to Dulux colour charts to find the perfect palette.
“Before we redecorated, the living room was a bit of a dumping ground,” Kerry recalls. “The kids would empty their toyboxes into the space and walk away, and I worked from a desk so small I couldn’t fit my knees under it. In all honesty, the room was rarely used.”
“Swayed by the trend for darker walls I’d seen all over Instagram and Pinterest, I wanted to try it out in my own home. I was worried that the Dulux Gallant Grey I chose might be too intense, but paired with the Jasmine White shade Dulux suggested it feels coordinated, and I love how cosy and striking the finished look is.”
“My husband, Chris, and I did the painting together, and the only tricky thing was managing the bickering that comes from husband and wife DIY. Other than that, it was a breeze – we’re a dab hand at painting now.”
“We use the room almost every day, and it’s become my favourite living space in the house. I’m thrilled the paint is washable, too – no more grubby handprints on the walls. We bought a large dining table that we all sit around for dinner, and painting our collection of second-hand chairs in the same grey and white shades as the ones on the walls made them feel as if they belong together.”
